Design is finally over, and you can now begin programming, right? Well, not quite. Design doesn't always end that nicely. In fact, you can expect to revisit design (in the capacity of designer and/or architect) as new discoveries are made during construction. The beginning and ending phases of an object-oriented project are similar to the rise and fall of empires. When Greece conquered Persia, the Persian Empire didn't immediately cease to exist. It faded away over time. The Greeks might have deposed the king and his top officials, but some Persian leadership persisted until Persia was assimilated (somewhat) into Greek life and culture. When the Romans later conquered Greece, the Greek Empire didn't immediately fall. It faded away. Similarly, the empire of Analysis doesn't immediately give way to the empire of Design, and the empire of Design doesn't immediately fall away under the conquest of the empire of Construction. As one phase rises in importance, the previous one begins to fadeand is sometimes briefly resurrected when there are new discoveries. |
